Treating Your Cavity In One Visit

When you develop a cavity, then the health and stability of your tooth is at risk! In order to prevent tooth loss due to an infection or abscess, your Gary, IN, dentist may recommend a dental filling. Using a lifelike and metal-free material, we can often repair your tooth in just one sitting!

The Dangers of Tooth Decay

A cavity forms when harmful bacteria is no longer held at bay by the protective layer of outer tooth enamel. An injury that cracks or chips a tooth, or poor oral hygiene that weakens enamel, could be responsible. Once bacteria reach the inner layers of dentin, a cavity forms that unless treated, will grow and spread and eventually lead to a painful infection or abscess. If you begin to experience toothaches and tooth sensitivity, then let us know right away. Don’t let a minor issue turn into something that could threaten the stability of your smile!

Dental Fillings

If upon examining your smile we discover the presence of a cavity, then or team will offer treatment, possibly in as little as one visit. A dental filling means removing the decay from the tooth and thoroughly cleaning it. We then prepare the composite resin we create them with, a metal-free material that can be shaded to match the color of your tooth. We apply the material to the tooth and then shade the tooth as we cure it under a light. The final step is a polishing, which ensures a more lifelike appearance.

Treatments for Advanced Tooth Decay

If the issue becomes more severe, then a filling may not be enough. In just one visit, our team can create and place a dental crown that looks natural and absorbs serious bite forces. Using CAD/CAM technology, the CEREC system ensures a strong and lifelike solution to decay and infection. We can also administer a root canal procedure to remove any infected tissue as well. To avoid future cases of decay, take time each day to brush for two minutes when you wake up and again before bed. Be sure you use a toothpaste that contains fluoride too! Floss before bed as well, and make time to see us ever six months for a checkup and cleaning. Finally, make an effort to cut back on sugary foods and drinks, which we know is pretty tough to do this time of year. If you have any questions, then please contact our team today.
