When you lose one tooth, we often address the issue with a dental bridge. However, for those with multiple missing teeth, we may need a more substantial dental prosthetic. We can often address advanced tooth loss with either partial or full dentures.
The Health Risks of Advanced Tooth Loss
When you lose a majority of your teeth, then opting for a prosthetic is a good course of action. Otherwise, you may be forced to mainly consume soft foods, depriving your body of essential nutrients. In addition, advanced tooth loss often means difficulty speaking and embarrassment about your appearance. Missing teeth also increase the risk of misalignment, TMJ disorder, bruxism, and other serious oral health complications.
Partial Dentures
A partial is a great choice for those with multiple missing teeth, but not enough to warrant a full prosthetic. The denture consists of a base made from acyclic, which is designed to look like natural gum tissue. There will be custom-made teeth created from ceramic or zirconia, as well as metal clasps which attach to natural teeth to anchor the new ones in place.
Complete Dentures
A complete, or full, prosthetic replaces every tooth on one or both arches. The denture also contains a lifelike base made from acrylic, as well as a full row of custom-made teeth created using lifelike ceramic or zirconia. Natural suction holds the prosthetic in place. Sometimes, a patient may decide to use a special adhesive for greater stability. As with our partial, this one will be custom-made to match your smile and facial structure. Patients can again enjoy the benefits of having a full and functional smile, one they’ll be proud to show the world.
