Do you wish your smile was brighter? We often talk to our Gary, IN, patients about teeth whitening. We have multiple options available to remove or mask discoloration. Do you have questions about teeth whitening?
Question: How does in-office whitening remove stains in one visit?
Answer: With our in-office option, we place a protective covering over the lips and gums. Then, we apply a powerful bleaching agent to the teeth. The gel breaks up the teeth stains and helps patients achieve a brighter smile in just one visit.
Question: Do you offer an at-home solution?
Answer: We do have an option you can use at home! We create a set of whitening trays and then prescribe a bleaching gel. The patient simply fills the trays with gel and wears them for about 30 to 45 minutes a day, over the course of one to two weeks. Often, patients obtain smiles brightened by multiple shades!
Question: What causes discoloration?
Answer: A variety of factors lead to discoloration, including consuming sugary foods or drinking beverages with dark pigments (tea, red wine, coffee, and soda). Smoking and tobacco use also stains teeth (and increases the risk of several types of cancer). When we don’t care for our smiles, then plaque buildup can accumulate, which will also make discoloration more apparent.
Question: Can I prevent future teeth stains?
Answer: Yes! You can help your new results last longer by brushing and flossing daily, having your teeth cleaned every six months, and cutting back on sugary foods and drinks. We also suggest drinking more water and less soda, tea, red wine, or coffee, all of which can stain teeth. If you tried our at-home system, you can also keep your trays and any remaining gel for touch-ups down the road.
