Question: What happens in a checkup?
Answer: During your checkup, we will carefully examine your smile, taking x-rays and detailed images of your teeth, gums, and jaw. We’re looking for signs of gum inflammation, cavities, oral cancer, or any wear or fiction on the teeth that could indicate TMD or bruxism. We hope to identify any problems in the earliest stages, offering care to help you avoid complications.
Question: Why are cleanings so important?
Answer: During the same visit, we will clean your teeth. Using either a manual tool or an ultrasonic scaling device, we will remove all plaque and tartar (calcified plaque) from the teeth. Doing so helps prevent gum inflammation and enamel erosion, reducing the risk of gingivitis, gum disease, and even tooth decay. You also enjoy fresher breath, brighter teeth, and a smoother finfish on your teeth.
Question: Do children need preventive care as well?
Answer: Yes! Children are also susceptible to tooth decay and gingivitis, which means preventive care can help strengthen their smiles. They should have checkups and cleanings every six months, just as adults do. We can also discuss preventive treatments, such as fluoride treatments or even dental sealants.
Question: Do you look for TMJ or bruxism-related issues?
Answer: Yes! We can then offer treatment, often in the form of an oral appliance. A custom-made oral appliance is worn as you sleep and can help correct the jaw joint strain responsible for TMJ disorder and prevent further damage due to teeth grinding.
We can offer preventive care to help you maintain optimal oral health.
