How Does Bonding Fix Teeth In One Visit?

If you have a chipped tooth, even if the damage appears minor, you should seek treatment. Damage to your teeth could mean an increased risk of oral health problems. Fortunately, we can repair your teeth, often in one visit, with dental bonding.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Bonding

Question: What risks does a damaged tooth pose?

Answer: Our teeth are coated in a protective layer of tooth enamel. However, when a tooth becomes chipped or broken, that layer is compromised and may allow harmful bacteria to reach the more sensitive inner layers of dentin. Tooth decay can then form, as well as dental infections.

Question: How does bonding work?

Answer: With bonding, we remove any decay and then gently etch the surface of the tooth. We prepare the composite resin by shading it to blend with the tooth. We apply the material in multiple layers, sculpting and shaping it as the composite resin cures under a light. Finally, we polish the tooth. We can use the procedure to close gaps between teeth, repair chipped teeth, and mask permanent discoloration.

Question: Will my tooth look natural?

Answer: Yes, the material can be shaded and the polishing helps ensure a more a lifelike appearance. We often use the procedure as a more cost-effective alternative to veneers in some cases.

Question: Will you also perform a contouring procedure?

Answer: We can also complete a contouring procedure in the same visit. We gently buff the tooth to remove any pits or grooves in the tooth’s surface. We can also reshape malformed teeth or help dull teeth that are overly pointed. As with dental bonding, this can be completed in a single visit. If you have any questions about our bonding and contouring, or any of our other cosmetic procedures, then contact our team today.
