Which Teeth Whitening Treatment Is Right For Me?

As part of our approach to cosmetic dentistry, we offer our patients professional teeth whitening. Patients can enjoy more dramatic and longer lasting results than those available with store bought strips, toothpastes, or rinses. We have two different options available, in-office and at-home. Which teeth whitening treatment is right for you?

Our In-Office Whitening Option

With our office-based option, we can often remove discoloration in as little as one to two hours. We begin the procedure by placing a protective covering over your lips and gums. Then, we prepare and apply the bleaching gel the teeth. The gel will then be activated with a curing light, allowing it to break up stains and brighten the teeth. Patients can enjoy a brighter smile in one visit. Patients with hectic schedules often enjoy this option.

Whitening Your Smile From Home

If you prefer to brighten your smile from home, or if you have a more serious case of discoloration, then we may suggest our at-home option. We send the patients home with a set of plastic trays and a tube of bleaching gel. The patient will fill the trays with the gel and then wear them for a set amount of time each day, usually around a half hour to 45 minutes. Total treatment takes about one week to ten days. Smiles can be brightened by multiple shades, and the treatment can sometimes even address minor intrinsic discoloration (also known as permanent staining).

Keeping Your Smile Bright

Following treatment, you can take steps to help your smile stay brighter for longer. You should brush and floss daily, avoid sugary foods and drinks, cut back on beverages with dark pigments (coffee, tea, soda) and finally, see us every six months for a through dental cleaning.
