Creating Crowns In One Visit

A restoration improves the health and function of your smile, often protecting your tooth from the need for root canal treatments or extractions. But how do we create these lifelike restorations? With CEREC technology, we offer our Gary, IN, patients crowns and veneers in just one visit. How does this procedure work and will your restorations look natural?

The CEREC Process

In the past, receiving one meant between two and three visits, and up to two weeks wearing a temporary restoration. Now, we employ CAD/CAM technology to design, create, and place a completed dental crown in just one sitting. The procedure begins with preparation: we need to remove tooth structure and make room for the restoration. Using digital technology, we will take detailed impressions of your smile. These images will be used to create a 3D model of your tooth. After unloading the model into the CEREC machine, we will sculpt the restoration from ceramic. We use ceramic for a number of reasons, as the material is not only strong and stain-resistant, but can be shaded and shaped to match the rest of your smile. We then check the fit, make any necessary adjustments, and place the crown using a powerful bonding material. In one visit, you enjoy a more natural looking smile.

When Do We Need One?

We may recommend a crown to repair advanced tooth decay, complete a root canal, or to address cracked or chipped teeth. Placement also helps with tooth replacement, anchoring dental bridges in place or even restoring a single tooth dental implant. We also reshape malformed or damaged teeth and correct a number of cosmetic concerns.

Veneers

CEREC technology not only creates a dental crown in one visit, but also offers other ceramic repair options, such as inlays and onlays. We also craft veneers, which cover the front and sides of your teeth. We use these to completely change a tooth’s shape and color, offering a solution to multiple cosmetic issues. For example, placement helps close gaps between teeth, correct the appearance of minor misalignment, and even mask permanent teeth stains, which would not otherwise respond to teeth whitening. If you think your smile could benefit from a custom-made repair option, or if you would like to learn more about the CEREC system, feel free to give our team a call. We’re eager to address your questions and concerns!
