Bonding & Contouring

As the saying goes, “the devil is in the details.” When it comes to the appearance of your teeth, this saying rings true. Often, the smallest changes or tiniest tweaks can result in a huge cosmetic improvement to your smile. Miller cosmetic dentist, Dr. Nicholas Cain uses teeth bonding and contouring to smooth rough edges; gently shape the teeth; and fill in gaps, cracks, and chips. The resulting changes often are so subtle that most people probably will notice that your smile looks different — better — but they probably won’t be able to pinpoint exactly what has changed.

Cosmetic bonding. Dr. Cain uses bonding to repair gaps, chips, and gaps in teeth. Using instruments, he very precisely applies a composite resin material (the same material used in tooth-colored dental fillings) to build up the areas in question. Bonding adds tooth structure and fills in problem areas. Once the resin material hardens, patients may treat it like they treat their natural teeth.

Teeth contouring. While bonding involves building up tooth structure, contouring involves removing tooth structure. Dr. Cain uses contouring to softly smooth teeth that are too large or have sharp edges — such as “vampire teeth” or “fangs.” Contouring doesn’t affect the nerves of the teeth, so the process isn’t painful. And, because Dr. Cain usually needs to remove just a tiny bit of tooth structure, cosmetic contouring usually does not take long at all.

There is no need to be bothered by small imperfections in your smile. Bonding and contouring is an affordable alternative to more expensive fixes such as porcelain veneers. In just one office visit, Dr. Cain can get rid of them once and for all and give you a reason to smile!
